Today was also quite a busy day for all of us! Zachary turned 5 today and he is now a “big boy” like his dad. 🙂 We opened his birthday presents this morning and he loved all of them. He got a slip and slide, a digital camera, a stuffed animal, some cash, and more.
Today we really let freedom ring! We started out the day by attending our annual 4th of July breakfast at the church. The food was REALLY good and there was a LOT of it. Much of it Carmen didn’t recognize so we helped her out! After the meal, there was a pie eating contest and

Wow, what a full day of activities! Sarah and Carmen hooked up with Taylor Gaul and her student Marta and hung out in Naperville for much of the day. They went to Mrs. Gaul’s book warehouse and then to the old Waubonsie Valley High School Gold Campus where Sarah attended her Freshman Year last year.
Today we had our combined Young Men/Young Women activity at church and went ice blocking on a nearby hillside. Carmen came and went down the hill a couple of times. She thought that was a really crazy activity! She said that they do nothing like this in Spain! 🙂 Also there were Ryan and Emily
Today was the big day! We picked up Carmen from the airport! She is such a sweet girl! She has only been with us for a few hours, but we feel very blessed to have her in our home! She’s all smiles, very polite, and is ready and eager to jump into the life we lead.
Now that our Family Reunion is over, we are excitedly looking forward to Carmen coming to stay with us for the month of July! We pick her up on Tuesday the 30th! We will add many more entries to our blog as we have GREAT experiences with her this coming month! Stay tuned for more…
We had an incredibly WONDERFUL Hobbs Family Reunion in Nauvoo, Illinois on June 23-25! Mom, Dad, all 8 kids and their families, Auntie Carla Fisher, Sue and Arlen Mounteer, Ben and Ashlee Despain, and Corey and Ashley Mounteer were there. 49 in all! Brittany recently applied to participate in a leadership program through the city called the Aurora Leadership Institute (ALI). Only 30 kids each year are accepted, and out of the hundreds of applications submitted, she was chosen! We are very proud of her for her desire to do this. Brittany is participating in a track club this summer through Waubonsie Valley High School. She attends practices daily and has a few meets throughout the summer.
