Camping with the Boys at Devil’s Head

Last night, the girls had to work, but we wanted to get a camping trip in before it started getting colder, so we took the boys up for an overnight camping trip to Devil’s head!  We had a fun time there with them!  It rained a bit but then cleared right up!  We had fun building a fire, pitching the tent, and eating!  The boys, as always, wanted to go exploring so Angela and I took turns doing that.

We slept pretty well (as good as can be expected) and this morning, we got up, cooked a nice hot breakfast of bacon and eggs, and then hiked up to Devil’s Head.  The weather was absolutely beautiful and perfect for hiking!  We love that hike because it’s not too long and the views are stunning!  The boys always love the ranger fire lookout (although Zach was bummed because it wasn’t open yet when we got there).  I guess we’ll have to do it next time more in the middle of the day.  🙂

After we got done with our hike, we went back and packed up camp.  By that time, the girls were already at work, so we went and saw them before going home.  We all walked in there, dirty, smelling like smoke, and happy.  I’m sure that the girls were about as embarrassed as they could be!  🙂

After the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory visit, we all went home, unpacked, took showers, and relaxed on our soft sofas instead of on the hard ground!  🙂  Thanks for a great overnight campout boys!  🙂

BIG Pack Meeting for Zach!

Tonight Zach had an awesome (and possibly record-setting pack meeting)!  He was awarded 24 belt loops, 5 pins, 2 silver arrow points, and his cub camp patch.  As I said, I think it was a record in our ward for the most awards received at a single pack meeting.  🙂  He was so proud of himself!  🙂

When we got home, he set up all his awards and wanted me to take a picture of him with them all!  🙂

He worked really hard for all these belt loops, pins, and arrows.  He wanted to make sure he got everything he could before he left cubs.  He is now in the Webelos program and is excited to see what that will bring!  Great job Zach!  Nice work!  🙂

Ward BBQ Picnic

Today we had an awesome ward BBQ down in Larkspur at the city park.  Tons of people showed up, and we all had a great time!  I think that this was the most well attended ward activity that we have ever been too!  It would be great if all were that way!  🙂  Hopefully going forward…

Zach Starts Soccer

Zach started Soccer today!  It was kind-of unexpected, but we got a call from the coach (who is also the dad of one of Zach’s friends at school) asking him if he wanted to play.  There were a few of his friends on the team and they were short and needed players.  We talked with Zach and he got excited about it so we signed him up.

He is playing with the Colorado Storm league.  It is a competitive travel league!  😐  Fortunately the games aren’t too far away (at least in the Denver area).  We had to purchase jerseys (home and away), shorts, cleats, new shin guards, and the whole works.  The registration cost was pretty steep, but I think Zach will do well and have fun.  He’s pretty excited! Go Zach!  🙂

CV Curriculum Night

Tonight Angela and I  we went to curriculum night for Castle View High School.  It was a really weird thing being able to go to all of Kirstyn’s classes together!  It’s been many years since we’ve only had one child a school!  Usually we’ve had to split up!  🙂  I guess that’s a sign of us getting old!

AVA First Day of School!

Today was the boys first day back to school at AVA!  They were really excited to go to first grade and fifth grade!  Their teachers are going to be great!

Unfortunately, last night, Zach started feeling sick with a cough and headache and stuff.  He was really upset about the fact that he would fell yucky on the first day of school, but he went anyway, got through it and had a pretty good first day.  He was feeling a little better when he got home.  We filled him full of vitamin C, made him a good dinner and then sent him to be early which he gladly accepted (not usual of him).  🙂

Great job boys on a wonderful first day of school!  Get feeling better, Zach!

Jumping Place Fun

Angela took the boys and a couple of friends to a jump/bounce house place to have one last fling before school started!  They had a great time and got their energy out in prep for sitting in the classroom! 🙂

Meet the Boys’ New AVA Teachers

Today Angela and I got to go over to Aspen View and meet the boy’s new teachers!  They seem great (Ben – Johnson, Zach – Godwin) and are excited to teach our boys!  We’ll see how that attitude is in a couple of months!  🙂  The boys are great and I think they’ll have a great 1st grade and 5th grade year!

Seminary also started today.  Kirstyn’s VERY excited to go, even though that means getting up at 5:30am every day!

Seminary Fireside

Today we had the seminary fireside to kick off this year’s seminary program.  I took Kirstyn and she got to meet her new class and her teachers.  They are studying the Doctrine and Covenants and Church History this year and so she is excited about that!  She loves seminary and can’t wait for it to start tomorrow!  🙂

Kirstyn First Day of School

Today was Kirstyn’s first day of school!  It seemed like the summer went WAY too fast for school to already be starting up again!  None of our kids have ever started this early!

Kirstyn’s really excited for school this year because she gets to start the Mosaic program, which is different than normal go to class, get a bunch of homework, get the homework done, go to class, get more homework, etc.  This program is project-based and they learn the concepts they need to graduate while doing these group and individual projects!  We’re excited to see what this will bring.

Great luck in school this year cute girl!

DC Fair Parade

Today was the Douglas County Fair parade and Kirstyn played in the CVHS Marching Band in it.  We had a fun time watching all the entries.  We got a good laugh because the women’s roller derby team was in the parade, the Castle Rock n’ Rollers.  One of them was on The Amazing Race a season or so back and Angela wanted to meet her!  So, she ran out into the group and talked with them for a bit (right in the middle of the street during the parade)!  🙂  It was pretty funny.  Turns out she wasn’t there which bummed Angela.  🙂  LOL!

Kirstyn did a great job playing!  We were unfortunately on the wrong side of the road so we didn’t get great pictures of her, but oh well, they did great anyway!

Great job Kirstyn!  You guys sounded awesome!  🙂  We enjoyed the rest of the parade with our friends, the Pedersen’s and the boys got lots of candy.  After that we went home and enjoyed the rest of our Saturday cleaning house and then relaxing!  🙂

Mutton Bustin’ Ben and the DC Fair!

Today we went to the Douglas County Fair!  We haven’t been to a county fair in a very long time and it was a lot of fun!  We signed Ben up for the mutton bustin’ competition where kids can ride the back of a sheep just like the big guys ride broncos and bulls.  🙂  Ben got all dressed up in his best cowboy gear and was SO excited!

They got him all decked out in padding and helmet got him, situated on the back of a pretty big sheep, opened the gate, and off he went!  He didn’t last very long but he held on tight and had a blast!

He probably will weigh too much next year to do it but he told me that if he does, he’ll start losing weight so he can do it again!  🙂  I had a good laugh about that!  🙂

The young women were coming back to the fair for an activity to watch the bull riding competition, so Angela and Kirstyn left to go to the church.  The boys and I hung out at the fair for awhile longer, got some dinner, and enjoyed taking a look at all the animals and such!

What a great time we had!  Hope you enjoyed all the fair boys!  We’ll have to go back every year!  🙂
