Park, Library, Shopping, and Badminton!
Today was a pretty busy day for everyone. Carmen ate birthday cake for breakfast! 🙂 That sounds like something I would do! While I was at work, Angela took the kids to the park to play and then to the library. They had a lot of fun. Ben’s favorite things to do are to swing and to ride in the cars like he is doing in this picture. Zach loves everything and it’s hard to keep up with him. He constantly runs around from thing to thing full of energy and laughter. Kirstyn likes to wander and just loves being outside.
Even Carmen got into the action. As you can see, she enjoyed getting on the little kids things! 🙂 Angela thought it was pretty funny and had to get some pictures! It was a nice day to be outside. Not too hot, and not too cold. This year has been unseasonably cool for this time of year which we have absolutely loved.

After playing in the park, they all went to the library to check out some books, movies, and computer games. The kids really like going to the library! Every time they go, the library seems to have new stuff for them to check out.
After checking out a bunch of books at the library, they all came back home for some lunch. Elena (one of the Spanish kids that came to the party last night) called Carmen and asked her to go to the mall and do some shopping with her. So, from 2:30 – 6:30, they spent their time wandering around the mall looking in all the shops. Overall I think that the only thing that was purchased in the 4 hours was a t-shirt. 🙂 That’s typical of something our girls would do too!
Elena and Carmen got back just in time to leave for the Young Men and Young Women activities at the church. Carmen asked if Elena could come and of course, we said yes. Brittany had gone over early for a meeting, so we went over and picked up Christina, Brittany’s friend, and went over to the church. The girls played badminton and had a blast.

While the girls were playing badminton, I played a game of Kubb with some of the young men and their leaders. Kubb (pronounced koob) is a lawn game where the object is to knock over wooden blocks by throwing wooden sticks at them. Kubb can be simply described as a combination of bowling and horseshoes. Today’s version originated in Sweden. It’s a LOT of fun!

After the activity was over, I treated everyone to frosties (Brittany, Christina, Carmen, Elena, and myself) before dropping everyone off and going back home. The girls really enjoyed the activity, and Carmen REALLY enjoyed her chocolate frosty! As soon as I even mentioned going to get frosties, her face lit up with a huge smile and she was excited! 🙂

By that time (after 3 or 4 calls back home), they finally told me that everyone was there and I could come back home now. When Carmen walked through the front door, she was met by 25 people yelling SURPRISE! She had no clue and was VERY surprised and happy herself! She couldn’t believe that we had done this for her and that all these people had come!

After finishing their shopping, Angela took Brittany and Carmen to Phillips Water Park to swim and go on the water slides. They had a great time hanging out at the pool and enjoying themselves. While they were swimming, Kirstyn, Zachary, and Benjamin did a little bit of getting wet themselves in the back yard. They put the hose at the top of the slide and went down it wet and fast. They also got sprayed a bunch by their dad. While they were playing, Angela cut the grass in the back yard, and Kirk pulled out some bushes and weeds. It’s funny to watch Benjamin. He doesn’t care if his clothes stay on or not. I had to take a picture of him as his swimming suit was about ready to fall off! 🙂

After dinner was over, Brittany took Benjamin for a walk because he was getting very wiggly and unhappy. He wanted to go outside! Zachary also wanted to get outside, so I put him in Benjamin’s jogger and off he and I went. He loved being outside, sitting there, and relaxing. We walked all over the neighborhood and enjoyed our time outside. I don’t think Zach stopped talking the whole time! He loves to chat and chat and chat and chat. Once he chats, then he loves to ask question after question after question.
After we dropped them off from the airport, Brittany, Carmen and I drove the short way up to see the Chicago Temple. Even though today was cloudy, it was nice and cool and an overall beautiful day. We talked to Carmen about what the temple is, why we go there, and how important it it is to us in the Church while we walked around the grounds for a little bit. She thought the building and the grounds were very beautiful.

Today, as seems to always be the case lately, we had a very busy and late day. I took the day off of work to relax and play with the family. We all got up a little late because of the late night card-playing from last night. I got a craving for crepes, so Angela got a break from making breakfast today and I made crepes for everyone. We enjoyed them filled with fresh blueberries, jam, syrup, chocolate sauce (Carmen’s favorite), and other items. I hadn’t made these in awhile.
and then Sarah, Brittany, Kirstyn, Carmen, and I want to see the 11:20am showing of the new Harry Potter movie. We all really enjoyed it! After it was over, we all agreed that we thought the book was better, but the movie was very entertaining. 🙂

We spent the rest of the afternoon reading and relaxing. Angela checked out “Holes” in Spanish for Carmen and she has been enjoying reading that book. Zach enjoyed reading as well. He ran right into Carmen’s room, jumped up on the bed, sat, and read with her. She put her arm around him and he snuggled right up and was a good boy. She is so good to Zachary and we appreciate it

This morning after an OK night’s sleep, got up early and walked around the camp. There is some beautiful scenery that I was able to get some pictures of. After waiting for all the girls to get up, I helped get Sarah and Brittany packed up and we left camp and came home. I ended up sleeping in the car (thank heaven I had a pillow). It was VERY humid and I didn’t want to clean up a wet tent later and when I went to the cabin I could have slept in and opened the door, I heard the scurrying of little creatures (mice and maybe a small snake or two)! 🙂 I have done that plenty of times at Scout Camp and elected not to do it this time, so the car was my only option which wasn’t too bad.
