Baptism Interview and New/Old Friends

Today, Zachary had his baptism interview with the Bishop.  He is so excited to get baptized!  We also dressed him up and took pictures for his announcement.

We also got a call from Brittany this morning and she said she met this “really hot” guy down at EFY and she said his name was Baxter.  I about fell of my chair and she was really freaked out as to why!  Turns out that “her” Baxter is Baxter Bruner, the son of some friends of ours who used to be in our ward WAY back when in Naperville!  We used to babysit him and Sarah and him would play together (or what playing 2 year old toddlers can do).  🙂  That really freaked her out that we knew the kid.  🙂  Small world!  When his mom and dad found out that from him, they thought it was pretty funny as well.  They live up in Kenosha Wisconsin now.  🙂  Sounds like Brittany’s having a blast!  🙂

Brittany met Baxter Bruner.

Off to EFY!

Today, Brittany went off to EFY in Normal, IL.  She is SO excited!  Initially we weren’t going to let her go because she is saving money for her Florida road-trip with the Marching Band during Christmas Break, but we gave in and decided to let her go.  She comes back acting so nice and has such a spiritual lift about her.  We hope that this year will be the same and she will have a great and spiritually strong experience!   Good luck Britt!

Youth Conference

Over the last 2 days, Brittany has been participating in our Stake Youth Conference.  She really enjoyed it.  It’s weird now that Sarah “too grown up” for that kind of thing.  Having only 1 daughter attend is strange.  Next year, Kirstyn will be able to go.  This year, Youth Conference was centered around a Book of Mormon theme with “Book of Mormon families” created.  They had a lot of great lessons, activities, and of course, Brittany enjoyed the dance.  She also talked a lot about the testimony meeting which built her up and made her happy!  It’s so wonderful that our youth have programs like this!  Where else can they be spiritually built up, hang out and have fun with a whole bunch of kids that have their same standards and morals, and talk about “religious stuff” openly without being poked fun at!

Father’s and Son’s and Mitzvah Ceremonies!

Last night, the boys and I went to the annual father’s and son’s campout!  We had a GREAT time and the boys really enjoyed being with their dad.  We always go to the Blackwell Forest Preserve, and as you can tell by the pictures below, it’s quite the groomed camping area!  🙂

True to tradition, we went and got KFC to eat for dinner.  That’s real camping!  🙂  It’s funny to have grown up going to father’s and son’s and cooking over the campfire (tinfoil dinners, etc.) but here, everyone goes out to KFC, Subway, Burger King, etc.   We played frisbee and tossed around footballs for awhile and when it started getting dark and the boys were tired, we went into the tent and (also true to tradition), pulled out my laptop, broke out the junk food, and watched a DVD until the food was gone and we fell asleep!  🙂

We got up early this morning and ate breakfast.  The bishopric cooks breakfast for everyone, so the boys ran around and had fun while I helped cook sausage, eggs, pancakes, etc.  We ate until we were stuffed and then packed up the tent and left.

We got home, got cleaned up, and then Angela, the girls, and I went to the neighbor twins’ Mitzvah ceremonies at the Jewish temple in Aurora.  That was a VERY interesting experience.  Almost the whole thing was done in Hebrew and we didn’t understand a thing (at least I didn’t).  I did get to wear a skull cap, however, and I got to keep it!  🙂  The service was almost 3 hours.  I can now say I have found a church that meets as long as we do!  🙂  After the ceremony, they had a luncheon with traditional foods and it was really good.  We congratulated the kids and came back home where we relaxed for the rest of the day.  🙂

Seminary Graduation & Sarah Speaks

Today, Sarah had her first “Adult Talk” in church!  🙂  We had all the seniors take 10 minutes and talk on specific topics.  Sarah’s was on “The Glory of God is Intelligence” and she knocked it out of the park!  What a fine young woman she has grown up to be.  We were very impressed!

To add to that, we all went to Seminary Graduation tonight and both Brittany and Sarah were honored.

Brittany got her certificate and Stake President’s Award (for reading, scripture mastery memorization, attendance, and such).  She also led the music for the graduation which she was VERY nervous for, but did an outstanding job!  🙂

Sarah graduated from Seminary with her 4 year certificate and also received the Stake President’s Award.  She also received the very prestigious “Anchor Award” for having received the Stake President’s Award all 4 years.  What an outstanding achievement!

We are so proud of the girls for their dedication to Seminary.  They never complained about going to Seminary, although there were a few mornings where they complained about getting up!  🙂  They always said that having Seminary in the morning helped them have a better day.  As parents, we love to hear that!  🙂

Great job Sarah and Brittany!  You guys are awesome!

Last Day of Seminary & Cubs/Sox on a Rooftop!

Today was the last day of Seminary for the year and Sarah’s last day of Seminary ever!  😐  She came home a little bummed that she wouldn’t have seminary anymore, but also a little bit excited that she wouldn’t have to get up early anymore for it either!  🙂  They had a great year and really loved their teachers.  It was a far cry from year 1 at Metea, and we are very grateful for that.  They learned a ton this hear, and when graduation comes up, they will both be receiving their Stake President’s Award.  Sarah will also get the Anchor award for getting the Stake President’s Award all four years!  Yea Sarah!

I worked from home today for the morning, and around 10 or so, Angela and I left to attend a presentation from a vendor and then enjoyed great rooftop seats at Wrigley for the Crosstown Classic of the Cubs vs. the Sox!

We had a great time!  The presentation was OK (talking about Cloud Computing Management) 🙂 but afterward, the food was great and the game was fun as well.  The Cubs had a chance to win but lost in the final inning.  Oh well, we had a blast anyway.  The day couldn’t have been better!  One cool thing is that we got to see Kerry Wood pitch his last time and make his final strikeout!  He is now retiring and everyone gave him a huge standing ovation.  He brought his little son out with him to celebrate on the field.  He had a great career!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day Angela!!!  You are very much loved and appreciated!  Today we all got up early and made breakfast in bed for Angela.  We made her crepes, sausage, juice, and fruit, which she really loved.  It’s always fun to see the kids do this for their mom.  🙂

Brittany got to give a tribute to Angela by speaking in church.  She was extremely nervous, but she did a GREAT job.  She talked about the importance of mothers and womanhood.  In addition, at the end of the block of meetings, all the moms got chocolate bars to top off a little “luncheon ” they had during Relief Society.  We think that they all liked this better than the potted flowers that they have received in the past.

We love you Angela!

Musical and Stake Conference – Part 2

This morning, we all got up, piled in the van, and drove to the general session of Stake Conference.  We went REALLY early in order to get a seat, and still didn’t get in the main chapel.  Elder Oaks came around and talked to as many people as he could, and we all got to shake hand.  Not sure the boys know how cool that was (they were excited to be kept busy with my iPhone and iPad).  🙂  The meeting was wonderful and we had a great chat on the way home about all the things we learned.

This afternoon, Sarah played for the matinee of the musical, and again, did an outstanding job.  We didn’t get to see her, but heard it went very well.

Metea Musical and Stake Conference

Tonight, Brittany and Angela went to the Metea Musical and had a great time just as we did last night.

Meanwhile, I was at church meetings for most of the afternoon and into the evening.  We had the Saturday sessions of our Stake Conference and Elder Oaks of the Twelve suprised us with a visit.  He was absolutely phenomenal!  The evening sessions are always my favorite and this one was by far the best one I had attended.  Having an apostle there was amazing and the other speakers did a GREAT job.   Angela was jealous she didn’t get to go, and I felt bad that I didn’t get to go see Sarah as well.  When you have so many things going on as we do with all the kids, you just have to split and hope that everything goes well!  🙂

Kirstyn Band Concert & Cubs Police Department

This afternoon, Angela took her cub scouts over to the Naperville Police Department for a tour.  They had a great time and learned a bunch about how police work “works.”  After that, we all went over to Still Middle School for Kirstyn’s final band concert of the year.  She was really excited to play and as always, loves to perform.

She is having a quandary right now, however.  She loves band and she loves chorus and will be doing them both next year, but she doesn’t know whether she’ll continue to play or if she wants to sing in high school.  She’s got another year to go in middle school, so she’ll have some time to make up her mind.  🙂

Ward Fireside

Tonight we had a “I’m a Mormon” fireside activity at the church for a ward activity.  It was very well put together.  We had a wonderful presentation in the chapel, and then afterwards, we had refreshments and booths/displays about all facets of the church in a “trade show” format around the outside walls of the gym.  This was kind-of a “dry run” for a larger one we will be doing later on this summer or early fall where we will all invite our friends and neighbors to participate.

Youth Temple Trip

Today we took all the youth 12 and up to the temple to do baptisms.  It was a great experience and it was nice to have all three of my daughters up there.  This was Sarah’s last trip as a youth and she was kind-of sad that her time is almost up.  🙁
